Wk 28: Fully Committed to God?

“But your hearts must be fully committed to the LORD our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time.” 1 Kings 8 v 61

This verse comes at the end of a long prayer that Solomon prays when he has completed the Temple and brought the Ark of the Covenant up to the Temple. He has been reminding the people of how great God is and how God never fails in His promises. Solomon also reminds us in this chapter that we all will go astray and make mistakes, but each time he says the people turn back to God. That is a challenge to us. How far have we gone away from God’s plan and purposes today? Do we need to turn back to him and confess our sins and ask for forgiveness?

But this closing verse of Solomon’s prayer challenges us that our hearts need to be fully committed to God. Words like wholehearted, dedicated, total submission spring to my mind here. How committed am I to God? How committed are you? Solomon also helps us see how we can live fully committed to God. We need to live by God decrees and obey his commands. Go away and find a decree or command of God that you can apply today and always. Pray that God will enable you to live a life that is fully committed to Him.
